  • ANCA: US and OSCE response to Karabakh to recent border incident belated | Public Radio of Armenia
    Congressmen Adam Schiff D CA and Brad Sherman D CA condemning the attack Azerbaijan has yet again shown that it is not serious about establishing peaceful relations with Armenia and Artsakh Despite the request for a ceasefire during the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe OSCE Minsk Group negotiations between Armenia and Azerbaijan Azeri forces have killed an Armenian solider Hrant Poghosyan The shooting was unprovoked and Armenian forces have respected the request for a ceasefire explained Rep Brad Sherman D CA Rep Schiff echoed those concerns and called attention to Azerbaijan s ongoing use of violence to resolve the Karbakah conflict One need only look at the sick display of adulation that greeted Ramil Safarov the Azerbaijani military officer who beheaded an Armenian colleague during a NATO Partnership for Peace exercise to see how the Azeri government has glorified this violence Rather than prison Safarov was paraded through the streets and given a new house and a promotion Baku s newest murderer will not be brought to justice until the international community insists on an end to these atrocities On December 19th the OSCE Minsk Group Co Chairs issued a press release referencing in general terms the border violence that led to Poghosyan s murder According to the release the Co Chairs noted that recent violence on the border undermines prospects for peace They encouraged the sides to refrain from further actions that could increase tensions and to work to maintain an atmosphere conducive to progress at the negotiating table On December 15th Armenian soldier Hrant Poghosyan was shot by Azerbaijani snipers while serving at defensive positions near his home town of Berd located in the Tavoush region The killing coincided with the OSCE Minsk Group Co Chairs visit with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev Comments Recent News S

  • EU provides € 77.5 million in assistance to Armenia | Public Radio of Armenia
    Prime Minister Abrahamyan mentioned in his remarks that the assistance provided by the European Union enabled the implementation of reforms in many areas such as trade related regulations food safety intellectual property rights justice vocational education public financial management He expressed confidence that the implementation of the concluded agreements will facilitate the reforms in the relevant areas as well as will strengthen the sectoral cooperation with the EU The European Union expects that this substantial assistance will lead to bold reforms over the next years A high level of commitment and strong domestic support under parliamentary and civil society oversight will be indispensable for Armenia s successful development noted the Head of EU Delegation He added that Armenia remains the second largest per capita recipient of EU funds in the Eastern Partnership With two of the agreements the EU gives support to economic development in Armenia contributing to overall poverty reduction This includes assistance to agriculture and rural development 25 million which will lead to efficient and sustainable agriculture increasing employment supporting farmers associations and cooperatives and improving access to affordable food In addition through an action on regional development 10 million the EU will support specific projects public private partnerships employment creation training of the labour force to step up the economic development of Armenia s regions In the area of governance the EU is now focusing specifically on anti corruption and civil service reform measures 21 million The EU will also support border management and migration 4 million in view of the Mobility Partnership and Visa Facilitation agreement between the EU and Armenia Another agreement will enhance the ability of civil servants facilitate Armenia s participation in EU programmes 6 million and reinforce the civil society as an important partner in promoting bilateral cooperation and monitoring reforms Two large infrastructure initiatives have also been agreed set to improve the daily lives of Yerevan residents One will provide an overhaul of the Yerevan metro system 5 million by addressing public health and safety concerns while another will support the rehabilitation of the water supply network in Yerevan 5 5 million improving water and waste water services Last but not least the EU will support nuclear safety through enhancing the regulatory capacity and framework for radioactive waste management 1 million This new assistance package confirms the commitment of Armenia and the EU to further strengthen their bilateral cooperation Comments Recent News S 400 will be deployed at Syrian airbase Hmeymim Russian Defense Minister 15 15 25 Nov 2015 Pope Francis due in Kenya at start of African tour 15 03 25 Nov 2015 Russia may cancel important projects with Turkey Medvedev 14 35 25 Nov 2015 Shark drones to patrol stretch of Australia s coast 13 56 25 Nov 2015 350th anniversary of first printed Armenian Bible Ayvazovski s 200th birthday put on UNESCO calendar 13 53 25 Nov 2015 Russian Cruiser Moskva will cover air groups in Syria with fort air defense 13 20 25 Nov 2015 Brazil World
